Where to buy hiking gear in Tokyo
If you’re thinking of buying outdoor gear in Tokyo or are planning to hike Mt. Fuji, then this is the place for you! ‘L Breath’ – the best outdoor shop that we could find in Tokyo.
We’ve spent a good few hours over the last few days looking for a good place to buy quality outdoor / hiking gear in Tokyo, ready for our trip to Mount Fuji, as we carry nothing that is suitable for cold weather hiking, and with a hiking trip to Nepal coming up too, we thought it was time to get some decent hiking clothes.
A good place to try looking would be in the Uedo district, which has plenty of cheap markets and shops selling outdoor gear, but it was all kind of piled up high, and not that much cheaper than we would expect to pay in a proper outdoor shop, considering we’d never heard of any of the brands on offer.
However, when we stumbled ‘L Breath’ (strange name) in the Shinjuku district, we discovered an outdoor paradise just steps away from the main Shinjuku JR railway station. Just look for the huge Karrimor logo and advert.
‘L Breath’ covers 8 floors and has everything and everything you’ll ever need for camping, hiking, swimming, you name it! It has all of the main brands, North Face, Lowe Alpine, Mammut etc plus Japanese brands too.
Prices are as you would expect them to be for brand new, original branded gear, although they had loads of stuff on sale, so we managed to bag ourselves some great bargains.
There’s a couple of floors dedicated to men, one for women, one for camping, one for accessories and a few others too – too many to remember.
Tip: If you’re not Japanese, take your passport along for a 5% discount when you buy. Enjoy.
